CM Bommai for Delhi, Volume Expansion Debate?
Updated: Monday, April 4, 2022, 23:48 [IST] Bangalore, April 04; Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraja Bommai will go to New Delhi on Tuesday. Delhi visit by chief ministers has begun debate again on the expansion of the cabinet.
Basavaraja Bommai, who is on his way to Delhi on Tuesday, will hold talks with Union Water Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on the issue of interstate river water sharing.
The minister will give the details of the all-party meeting in the state on the Mekedatu project, which has led to a tussle between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. He will submit a plea agreement to the project.
Basavaraja Bommai had said in Hubli last week that he would go to Delhi in the first week of April to discuss the water issue. Accordingly, he visited Delhi on Tuesday 5 April.
Volume expansion?Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai will meet High Command leaders in Delhi to discuss the state’s political affairs.
Basavaraja Bommai’s visit to Delhi after Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a state BJP core committee meeting on Friday was a source of great curiosity.
There are rumors that Amit Shah has agreed to a cabinet expansion during his visit to Karnataka. So it is possible that Basavaraja Bommai will have a discussion with Arun Singh in charge of Karnataka BJP and other high command leaders.
Some ministers will lose their seats if they agree to the reconstruction of the cabinet. There is already discussion in the state BJP about this. Asked about the expansion of the cabinet, Minister S. Eshwarappa said “Wait and See” on Monday.
There is also information that the volume expansion / restructuring could take place on April 8 if talks with High Command leaders are successful. There is no confirmation that the chief ministers will return to Delhi on Tuesday.
The assembly elections in the state will be held next year. Against this backdrop, the High Command leaders are going to figure out the consequences of expanding the volume. It is likely to have a lengthy discussion with the chief ministers.
High command leaders are also contemplating giving new legislators a ministerial seat and giving party organizational responsibility in the election. It is also curious as to which minister is being dropped from the cabinet.
Two months ago, senior BJP lawmakers demanded that the cabinet be expanded. But the chief ministers were unable to meet because the High Command leaders were busy in the election process of the five states.
Now the elections of the five states have concluded and the government is formed. The High Command leaders have taken special note of the state as the Assembly elections are due next year in Karnataka.
