A day after Tamil Nadu unanimously handed a decision urging the Union authorities to not accord permission to Karnataka for the Mekedatu mission within the Cauvery basin, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa claimed that Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on July 13 assured the State of granting clearances for all pending irrigation initiatives, together with at Mekedatu.
Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and Mr. Shekhawat reviewed consuming water and irrigation initiatives in Karnataka. The Chief Minister instructed reporters that the Union Minister has promised to offer clearances to pending initiatives, together with a balancing reservoir that Karnataka authorities proposes to assemble at Mekedatu within the Cauvery basin.
Mr. Yediyurappa mentioned the Karnataka authorities had urged Mr. Shekhawat to grant environmental clearances for irrigation initiatives and Mekedatu.
On July 12, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Okay. Stalin chaired an all-party assembly in Chennai the place a decision was handed saying no building should be undertaken at Mekedatu with out permission of the downstream States as per the Supreme Courtroom’s judgment.
The Karnataka authorities insisted that the Centre had no cause to stall the proposal since consuming water was a serious part of the mission.
Previous to the assembly, KPCC president D.Okay. Shivakumar tweeted: “At this time, as Union Minister of Jal Shakti Sri @GSSJodhpur will likely be conducting a gathering with CM Sri @BSY, we hope that the date of initiation of Mekedatu will likely be finalised. This mission represents hope for Karnataka, and we count on the CM will depart no stone unturned to meet it”.
The Chief Minister mentioned the State authorities urged the Jal Shakti Minister to difficulty Krishna Tribunal Award gazette notification and pending permissions from the Centre for Kalasa Banduri and Yettinahole initiatives in Karnataka.
Karnataka urged the Union Minister to declare Higher Bhadra mission as a nationwide mission, Mr. Yediyurappa mentioned.
