Bangalore, July 05; The State Department of Education Research and Training has issued a circular on the celebration of bag free day in schools under the name of ‘Celebration Saturday’.
Director DSRET has issued a circular in this regard. Government order dated 03/05/2019. Circular dated 28/10/2022 and s. MLA and former Minister Suresh Kumar has mentioned the letter number of Rajajinagar Assembly Constituency.
Regarding this matter and reference School Earlier it was ordered to observe one Saturday in every month as bag free day with the aim of providing enjoyable learning to the children and making them learn the text with joy without burdening them.
In the year 2023-24, the said activities are to be conducted at the school level on the 3rd Saturday of every month. 10 self-explanatory modules for students on various subjects and a guide manual for teachers have been prepared for this purpose to inculcate civic consciousness by engaging children in multi-faceted activities, the circular said.
Providing necessary guidance in this regard in Head Teacher and Teacher meetings and progress review meetings conducted at district, block and cluster level. The Student Activity Book and Teacher’s Manual have been uploaded on the DSERT website and information is provided to all teachers of primary and high schools to use these learning materials.
Celebration Saturday; All district and block level officials and CRPs must visit the schools on the day of ‘Celebration Saturday’ and provide necessary guidance. The circular said that their participation is required for the success of the programme.
The District Level Consolidated Report related to the celebration of ‘Celebration Saturday’ for the academic year 2023-24 has been prepared by the EVG Branch of the DSERT office. It has been instructed in the circular that it should be submitted to mail.
The idea of a bagless day; The National Education Policy-2020 has made some recommendations on observing ‘Bag Free Day’. During grades 6 through 8, each student takes a fun course that provides survey and hands-on experience in important vocational skills such as carpentry, electrical work, metal work, horticulture, pottery, etc., as determined by states and local communities and to complement local skill needs.
NCERT appropriately designs practice-based curriculum for classes 6-8 while framing the educational policy framework. During classes 6-8 all students participate in a 10-day bagless period where they train with local vocational experts such as carpenters, gardeners, potters, artists, etc. Similar internship opportunities (including vacation periods) to learn vocational subjects may be made available to students in grades 6-12. Professional courses will also be made available through online mode.
Bag-free days are encouraged throughout the year for a variety of enrichment activities including art, quizzes, sports and vocational craft materials. Children will be provided with experience of out-of-school activities by visiting places/monuments of historical, cultural and tourist importance, meeting local artists and artisans and regular visits to higher educational institutions of their village/tehsil/district/state.
