BJP and JD(S) boycott assembly proceedings in protest against suspension of 10 MLAs

Bangalore. The BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) boycotted the proceedings of the House for the second day on Friday in protest against the suspension of 10 Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs by the Karnataka Speaker for their “indecent and disrespectful” conduct. The Legislature session began on July 3 and today is its last day. BJP MLAs protest in front of Gandhi statue in Vidhan Soudh. During this, these members raised slogans against the government and Assembly Speaker UT Khadar. A joint delegation of both BJP and JD(S) met Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Thursday and submitted a memorandum about the “working style” of the Congress government in the state, its “oppressive and dictatorial” nature and the conduct of the Speaker.

The Speaker also met the Governor along with Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani and submitted a report regarding the proceedings of the Assembly on Wednesday. There was a lot of uproar in the assembly on Wednesday. The BJP MLAs tore copies of the Bills and proceedings and threw them at Lamani, who was presiding over the House at that time. After this, Speaker Khadar suspended 10 MLAs for the rest of the session. The MLAs who were suspended include C N Ashwath Narayan, V Sunil Kumar, R Ashok, Araga Gyanendra, D Vedvyas Kamath, Yashpal Suvarna, Dhiraj Muniraj, A Umanath Kotian, Arvind Bellad and Y Bharat Shetty.

In response, the MLAs of BJP and JD(S) had given a notice of no-confidence against the Speaker to the Assembly Secretary. During the proceedings of the House, the legislators alleged that the Congress government had deployed 30 IAS officers to “serve” the coalition leaders in the meeting held in the city on Monday and Tuesday to chalk out a strategy for the Lok Sabha polls. The ruckus had increased after this allegation by the opposition MLAs.
