Berlin: The Indian contingent continued its medal run at the Special Olympics World Summer Games, crossing the 50-medal mark in Berlin.

On the last day of the tournament, Special Olympics India won 15 gold, 27 silver, 13 bronze in athletics, cycling, powerlifting, roller skating and swimming. Won 55 medals in five different sports. Five medals (3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze) in swimming and six medals (3 gold, 2 silver, one bronze) in cycling course.

Every member of the cycling team won a medal in the 5 km road race with Neil Yadav the first to win a bronze medal. Later Yadav, Shivani and Indu Prakash won gold in 1 km time trial while Kalpana Jena and Jaysheel Arbutraj bagged silver.

 

Swimming: India’s medal tally almost doubled as freestyle swimmers Deeksha Jitendra Shiragaonkar, Pooja Giridharrao Gaikwad and Prasaddhi Kamble won gold. Madhav Madan added another medal to his tally by winning a gold medal. Murali and Siddhanth. Kumar won bronze in 25m freestyle.

Saket Kundu of Sonepat also won silver in mini javelin B level. The Little Angels School student is a multi-sport athlete who has competed at the national level in table tennis, figure skating and athletics.
