On August 3rd, the Belthangady court convicted and sentenced auto driver Hussain to 6 months imprisonment and a fine of 10,000 in a road accident case. The incident occurred when Hussain, driving an auto rickshaw from Ujire towards Dharamsthala, hit a two-wheeler near the Ujire-Belalu cross due to rashness. Srinivasa, the scooter rider, and co-rider Girija were injured in the accident. The case was registered at the Belthangady traffic police station, and an investigation was conducted by CPI Shivakumar and PSI Odiappa Gowda. The charge sheet against Hussain was submitted to the court, which was tried by the civil judge and the JMFC court. Honorable Judge Ramalingappa conducted the inquiry, and Assistant Public Prosecutor Ashita MA argued for the government. The court duty staff of the traffic station, Yogesh, provided necessary cooperation in the investigation. The accused was found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment and a fine. The incident highlights the importance of responsible driving on the roads of coastal Karnataka.
