On a significant day for coastal Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Bantwal Railway Station, along with 74 other stations nationwide, via video conference from Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station in Punjab. The event was broadcast live on a large LED screen set up on the platform of Bantwal Railway Station. Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta, who kicked off the event, highlighted that the station has undergone development works worth Rs. 26.18 crore, providing modern facilities to commuters. Chowta stressed the importance of merging the Konkan Railway Division with Indian Railways to boost development and urged public representatives to cooperate. He also requested the inclusion of Puttur Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Scheme and instructed officials to look into the matter. The MP praised the South Western Railway for completing the electrification necessary for the Vande Bharat train service to Mangaluru, making it possible to travel from Mangaluru to Subrahmanya Road station for just Rs. 25. The event was attended by MLC Kishore Kumar Puttur, former minister B. Nagaraja Shetty, and other dignitaries. Students from local schools presented cultural performances, including Tulu and Kannada songs, and Chende, Tala, and Yakshagana dances. Railway staff member Nivedita compered the event, which also included the felicitation of students who won prizes for writing essays on railways.
