Asian Championships 2023: Bhavani Devi entered the semi-finals by beating world number one Misaki Emura by 15-10 points.
Asian Championships 2023: Indian fencer Bhavani Devi created a new history by winning the bronze medal in the Asian Fencing Championship held in Wuxi, China. Bhavani Devi defeated defending world champion Misaki Emura in the quarterfinals to win India’s first bronze medal in fencing (Kathti Varase). Bhavani Devi entered the semi-finals after defeating world number one player Misaki Emura by 15-10 points.
But Bhavani lost 14-15 against Uzbekistan’s Zainab Dybekova in the semi-finals. However, by finishing third, she became the first Indian woman to win a bronze medal in the Asian Fencing Championships.
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur hailed this historic achievement. Beating the world number 1 to win a medal is really commendable. Every end has a beginning.
