New Delhi, June 13: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday announced three major schemes for disaster management worth Rs 8,000 crore.
Amit Shah chaired a meeting with State and Union Territories Disaster Management Departments at Vigyan Bhavan.
A total of Rs 5,000 crore scheme to expand and modernize fire services in states, a Rs 2,500 crore scheme for the seven most populous metros – Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune – to reduce the risk of urban flooding and 825 crore in 17 states and Union Territories to reduce landslides. The Home Minister said that Rupee National Landslide Risk Mitigation Plan has been announced.
After the meeting of Disaster Management Ministers of States and Union Territories, the Central Government has achieved a lot in this field in the last nine years. In the last nine years, the central government and the states have achieved a lot in this field. No one can deny that. But as disasters have changed their nature and their frequency and intensity have increased, we cannot sit back and plan more elaborately, said Amit Shah.
