Lucknow, July 20: With the price of tomatoes increasing day by day in India, it has come to light that a mother brought 10 kg of tomatoes to the country from her daughter who was coming from Dubai.

A Twitter user revealed this unusual gift she gave to her mother in India from Dubai. Tomato prices have skyrocketed in the past few days. In some parts of the country, the price has gone up to an average of Rs 250 per kg, making the staple vegetable of Indian cuisine unaffordable. Hence people are requesting their NRI relatives to bring tomatoes instead of gifts.

Dubai

Here is one such example. A Dubai-based daughter asked her mother in India what she wanted from the UAE city known for luxury shopping, and the mother told her to bring 10 kilograms of tomatoes.

A Twitter user named ‘Revs’ posted this on the microblogging platform Twitter about the incident. “Her sister from Dubai was coming to India from Dubai for her children’s summer vacation. She asked my mom if she wanted anything from Dubai. Then my mom told her to bring 10 kg of tomatoes. So now she packed 10 kg of tomatoes in a suitcase,” he tweeted.

A later tweet read that her sister packed the tomatoes in pearlpet storage jars and put them in her suitcase before traveling from Dubai to India. Our family uses a lot of tomatoes. So my mom brings pickles, chutney, some for me,” a Twitter user wrote.

Meanwhile, the skyrocketing price of tomatoes continues to burn the pockets of the common man, with a Pune farmer becoming a millionaire by selling them for Rs 3 crore in just one month. But only people who buy tomatoes are suffering due to unaffordability.
