Cybersecurity expert Dr. Ananth Prabhu highlighted a critical vulnerability in the fight against cybercrime on Friday in Mangaluru: a pervasive lack of public awareness regarding modern technology, including Artificial Intelligence. Speaking at a media interaction hosted at the city's Patrika Bhavana, Dr. Prabhu underscored that inadequate knowledge among users of digital tools like computers, the internet, mobile phones, and AI-driven devices directly contributes to personal information leaks and subsequent difficulties for individuals.
He emphasized that merely possessing these advanced technological tools is insufficient; users must also acquire comprehensive information for their safe and secure operation. Without this foundational understanding, Dr. Prabhu warned, individuals risk compromising their personal data, which can manifest in various challenging and financially detrimental situations. He stressed the imperative of cultivating sufficient knowledge about cybersecurity measures as a fundamental defense mechanism against such prevalent digital threats.
The insightful session, organized collaboratively by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Association, the Mangaluru Press Club, and the Patrika Bhavana Trust, aimed to equip media professionals with crucial insights into contemporary digital vulnerabilities. Pushparaj B.N., President of the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Association, presided over the interaction, setting the stage for the expert's discourse.
Distinguished guests present on the dais included P.B. Harish Rai, President of the Mangaluru Press Club; Annu Mangaluru, President of the Patrika Bhavana Trust; Srinivas Nayak Indaje, State Executive Committee Member of the Karnataka State Working Journalists' Association; and Kiran Sirsikar, who competently directed the session. Harish Adoor warmly welcomed the attendees, while Treasurer Vijaya Kotian delivered the vote of thanks, bringing the informative gathering to a close.
