On Tuesday, Congress cadres in Jaipur kept a sit‑in outside the Police Commissionerate, pressing authorities to file a Zero FIR linked to the alleged assault on NSUI National Secretary Ritu Barala in Delhi. The demonstration, which started on Monday evening, entered its second day as tension rose between party workers and law‑enforcement officials.
Slogans echoed from the precinct while a brief scuffle broke out; police employed mild force to disperse the crowd. Jaipur officials replied that a separate FIR was unnecessary because an investigation is already underway at Delhi’s Connaught Place Police Station for the October 13 incident. Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Ajay Singh confirmed that Barala’s complaint had been attached to that case.
Pradesh Congress Committee chief Govind Singh Dotasra challenged the police to produce the Delhi FIR copy, stating that the protest would end if the document were shown. Dotasra, along with other leaders, slept on the floor of the Commissionerate on Monday night and returned for tea and breakfast on Tuesday. During the protest, an irritated Dotasra asked a fellow activist where the Jaipur Police Commissioner could be found; the reply was, “In the BJP camp.”
The sit‑in follows a reported phone call from Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, who allegedly instructed Dotasra to secure FIR registration in Jaipur. Dotasra arrived at the Commissionerate around 6:15 p.m. on Monday, demanding that the police demonstrate the existence of a Delhi FIR. He added that filing a Zero FIR is a legal right, citing a similar registration in Kerala, and warned that the party would “fight until the very end” while remaining open to dialogue.
Rajasthan Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully questioned why no FIR had been filed despite Barala’s complaints in both Delhi and Jaipur, accusing BJP members of placing themselves above the law and contradicting their public commitment to women’s safety and the “Beti Bachao” campaign.
