Last Saturday, citizens converged at Beluvai Kandiga Greens in Moodbidri for a hobli-level Prajaseve Andolana, urging local authorities, including MLA Umanath A. Kotian and Tahsildar Sridhar Mundalamani, to address critical infrastructure and land encroachment issues.

A primary concern was the lack of a highway crossing on the four-lane Moodbidri-Karkala National Highway. Residents of Kesaragadde specifically highlighted the absence of a crossing between the Bannadka and Beluvai flyovers. This forces individuals needing to access essential services—such as schools, hospitals, the panchayat office, and cooperative institutions within Kesaragadde—to undertake a four-kilometre detour. MLA Kotian assured attendees he would escalate the matter to highway department officials.

Several land-related grievances also surfaced during the meeting. Former Panchayat Presidents Suresh K. Poojary and Bhaskara Acharya, alongside former member Bharat Shetty, brought to light the encroachment of 11 acres of government land (Survey No. 390) in Kana, Beluvai village, by a local individual. They urged the identification of the non-deemed forest portion of this land for allocation to landless families via the panchayat. Tahsildar Mundalamani promptly directed the Village Accountant to conduct a survey and identify the specific parcel. Additionally, former panchayat members informed the Tahsildar about local resident Chandrashekhara's encroachment of panchayat land, where he had cultivated coconut and other plants. Despite prior notices to vacate, Chandrashekhara had not complied. The Tahsildar consequently ordered revenue officials to proceed with the eviction, ensuring police protection.

Presiding over the event, MLA Umanath A. Kotian inaugurated the Prajaseve Andolana and emphasized the importance of responsive governance. He instructed officials across various departments to address public grievances positively and avoid unnecessary delays, further mandating that clear information be provided if issues fell outside their immediate resolution capacity. The session saw the reception of 35 applications pertaining to departments like MESCOM, Revenue, Highway, and Forest, with many resolved on the spot. Dignitaries present included Police Circle Inspector Rajendra, Block Education Officer Virupakshappa, Kannada Jagruti Samiti District Member Rajesh Kadalakeere, and Town Municipality Chief Officer Indu
