Kolkata, Oct 4 – Former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee told reporters at the NSC Bose International Airport that she may join the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) rally scheduled for Oct 10 at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where organisers plan to demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The decision, she added, will be finalised later.

Banerjee, who was about to board a flight to the capital to attend the broader INDIA bloc demonstrations, criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission for alleged irregularities in Bengal’s voter rolls and for what she described as a “joint conspiracy” to manipulate the electoral process. “No election has ever been conducted like the one in Bengal,” she said, questioning the pre‑poll predictions of vote margins and accusing the authorities of rigging and vote looting.

Even as Durga Puja celebrations unfold across the state, Banerjee said she feels compelled to stand with protestors. “When people raise their voices for an important cause, we must be beside them,” she asserted, noting that her initial plan was to skip the event but that personal requests from organisers persuaded her otherwise.

She also voiced solidarity with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, condemning the police handling of the Oct 6 Delhi demonstrations. Emphasising respect for women, mothers and children irrespective of political affiliation, Banerjee warned against any intimidation of families during political movements.

Looking ahead, Banerjee intends to approach President Droupadi Murmu to raise concerns over police actions and to seek a broad coalition of party leaders supporting the cause. Meanwhile, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh hinted on social media that the flight to Delhi might have been deliberately delayed.
