Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said on Tuesday that every person linked to alleged vote theft will face investigation, after a police‑blocked march near the Election Commission building in New Delhi.
He led more than 300 opposition MPs from both houses in a one‑kilometre walk from Parliament toward the Nirvachan Sadan, aiming to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other commissioners. Police halted the procession about 50 metres from the commission’s gate.
Gandhi, accompanied by sister Priyanka Gandhi and other leaders, then staged a sit‑in inside the adjacent Akashvani Bhavan. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and CEC Gyanesh Kumar of treason, saying their actions amounted to “vote chori”.
“Everyone will be investigated,” Gandhi declared in a statement released after the incident. He added that even the police on duty confirmed they were aware of the situation, and that the nation recognised the alleged hijacking of democracy.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, speaking earlier to the media during the march, called the alleged vote theft the work of the “biggest thieves” and warned that the government was trying to undermine the Constitution. He posted on social media that the Election Commission could no longer stand for “Election Compromised”.
Gandhi questioned why elected representatives were denied a meeting with the Election Commissioners, asking what purpose democracy serves if MPs cannot approach the commission. He pledged that no one involved in the purported vote theft would escape accountability.
