Kundapura: Dr. B. B. Hegde First Grade College recently concluded its inter-class moot court competition, 'Vidhikta-2026', at the college's Mookambika Auditorium. Organised by the Commerce Department, the annual event aims to cultivate essential legal awareness among students.
Dr. Surekha K., Principal of Vaikunta Baliga College of Law, Udupi, addressed the valedictory gathering, underscoring the vital importance of a basic understanding of law for all students. She elaborated that legal awareness extends beyond courtrooms, impacting daily life, and encouraged everyone to know their rights and duties to become responsible individuals.
College Principal, Dr. K. Umesh Shetty, presided over the function. Distinguished guests included Dr. Chethan Shetty Kovadi, Vice-Principal; Prasadi S. Suvarna, an advocate from the Udupi Bar Association and competition judge; Power TV News Anchor Pranut R. Ganiga; alumna advocate Nagarathna; Jeevan Lancy Ferreira, legal advisor at V-Reach Academy; and program coordinator Kishore Krishna. Preethi Hegde, also a program coordinator, extended a warm welcome, while Assistant Professor Preethi Shetty of the Commerce Department introduced the guests. Veena V. Bhat, Head of the Commerce Department, delivered the vote of thanks, and Professor Pruthvishree G. Shetty compered the proceedings. Third B.C.A. student Aditya offered the inaugural prayer, and Professor Satish Shetty Heskathur announced the award winners.
In the keenly contested competition, the team from Second B.Com. (D) secured the first place. Third B.Com. (B) earned the second position, and Second B.Com. (C) finished third. Individual accolades were also presented: Raksha from Second B.Com (D) received the Best Judge award, Varshini from Second B.Com (A) was honoured with the Best Actor award, and Seema from Third B.Com (D) was recognised as the Best Lawyer. Additionally, the Second B.Com. (B) department won the Best Video award.
