On October 1, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) apprehended 24‑year‑old Vishal Kumar Metre in Bidar district, Karnataka, on suspicion of maintaining contact with Pakistan‑based terrorist Shahazad Bhatti and two associates, Rana Hunain and Nomi Khan.

Vishal, a resident of Yanakura village in Bhalki taluk, was taken into custody in coordination with local police after a surveillance operation that had been ongoing since December 2025. Authorities say his mobile phone and WhatsApp were used to exchange messages with the three foreign operatives.

Bidar Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti confirmed that court proceedings have begun and that further details will be disclosed once the legal process is complete. The accused, a graduate, is currently booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Local police joined the probe after Vishal went missing, tracing his movements through digital footprints. The Chincholi police have filed a case related to the alleged terror connections and are assisting the central agency.

This arrest follows two earlier detentions in Karnataka within the past fifteen days involving alleged links to Pakistan‑based terror networks. In August 2026, the Uttar Pradesh Anti‑Terrorism Squad and Kalaburagi Police arrested two Uttar Pradesh natives, Mohammed Sameer (23) and Salman, in Kalaburagi for similar allegations, uncovering maps, videos and other sensitive material on their devices.

Investigators are examining the nature of Vishal's communications, the extent of any operational role, and whether the contact extended beyond mere messaging. The case adds to heightened scrutiny by both central and state agencies on potential subversive activities in the region.

Further updates are expected as the court hearings progress and the accused is questioned.
