Mangaluru City police recently apprehended a 22-year-old man from Kadaba taluk for allegedly attempting to defraud the Civil Police Constable (CPC) recruitment process. Yagnesh B.J. Rai, a resident of Bedraje House in Kodimbala village, was arrested after presenting an AI-generated fake admission letter to appear for the physical test held on September 28 at Mangala Stadium.

Officials supervising the Civil Police Constable Recruitment-2026 endurance and physical standard test (ET & PST) grew suspicious when Rai presented his hall ticket (number CPC 5225446) at the registration desk. A verification against the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) software revealed that his name and application number were absent from the 1:5 eligibility list. A closer inspection of the documents quickly confirmed their fraudulent nature.

During subsequent police interrogation, Rai confessed to failing the written examination. He admitted to obtaining an original hall ticket from a genuinely qualified candidate and then using AI technology to digitally alter the details, replacing them with his own name and information to create the counterfeit call letter. Police investigators found direct digital evidence of this editing process on his mobile phone.

Prakash Rudrappa Hoovina, Assistant Administrative Officer at the Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police's office, filed the official complaint. Barke Police registered a case, Crime Number 87/2026, under Sections 336(1), 336(3) (creating fake documents) and 318(4) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

Authorities produced the arrested individual before a court, and the investigation continues. As part of their efforts to trace the origin of the fake printout, a Barke police team travelled to Kadaba. They conducted significant checks and verifications at a local xerox/cyber shop, pursuing crucial leads in the case.
