On Tuesday, representatives of the Moodbidri Taluk unit of the Karnataka State Adidravida Samaj Seva Sangha and the Aleri Sri Satya Saramani Kanad Katada Moolakshetra Taluk Committee gathered at the Moodbidri Press Club to press the state government for the release of a Rs 10 crore grant announced in the Congress manifesto for renovating the Aleri Kanad Katada Moolakshetra.
The joint statement also called for the separate inclusion of the Saramani community in the Scheduled Caste list, allocation of funds for ethnographic research, and speedy distribution of DC Manna land parcels.
Shivaram, president of the Sangha's Moodbidri Taluk unit, criticised the recent cabinet meeting in Mangaluru for overlooking any scheme or grant for the Adidravida community, which he said numbers more than five lakh people. He highlighted that the manifesto promised Rs 32,611 crore for coastal and Malnad districts, yet none of that allocation addressed Adidravida needs.
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has reportedly asked the committees for a two‑week extension to consider the demands. The Sangha warned that failure to meet the deadline could trigger intense protests in October.
