Mangaluru City Crime Branch police detained three men on Saturday evening after uncovering a local network that dealt in the prohibited drug MDMA. The operation took place near Mudipu Kairagoli Cross in Ullal taluk and resulted in the seizure of 240 grams of the stimulant, estimated to be worth around Rs 24 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Nawaz alias Navva alias Mudipu Nawaz, 35, a resident of Kairangala village; Muhammad Arif N., 36, also from Kairangala; and Lloyd D'Souza, 35, who lives in the Mattebare area of the same village. All three were apprehended while attempting to distribute the narcotic to the public and to student groups in the city.
Police acted on credible intelligence that the trio procured MDMA from Bengaluru before bringing it to Mangaluru for resale. During the raid, officers confiscated four mobile phones and a tempo that had been used to transport the drug. The combined market value of the seized items, including the vehicle, is assessed at roughly Rs 29.8 lakh.
