Mangaluru, September 26 – Hundreds of residents gathered at the Mangala Auditorium of the City Corporation on Saturday for a Prajaseve Andolana session covering the Mangaluru A Hobli area of Mangaluru taluk. Citizens arrived with written applications detailing a range of local concerns, the most pressing of which involved the suspension of the Sandhya Suraksha Yojana pension scheme and persistent drainage problems.
District Collector Darshan H.V., Corporation Commissioner Rahul Ratna Pandey, Assistant Commissioner Meenakshi Arya and other senior district officials attended the meeting, which was chaired by MLA Vedavyas Kamath. The officials listened as a woman from Bajal explained that she had not received her Sandhya Suraksha Yojana pension for six months. Kamath replied that the pension had been halted for APL cardholders after the state government assumed power, and while he cannot intervene directly as a legislator, he promised to raise the issue with the government.
The agenda also covered irregular water supply, street lighting failures and demands for new public toilets, although these issues were not raised as prominently as the pension and drainage matters. Approximately three hundred applications were submitted, reflecting strong community participation in the grievance‑redressal mechanism.
Another petitioner requested funds for constructing a women’s association building in Kasaba Bengre. Kamath assured that the request would be considered for allocation from the MLA development fund. He also directed the attending officers to address complaints related to inadequate drainage and missing door numbers in the hobli.
Opening the session, Kamath highlighted that the Prajaseve Andolana provides a platform for the poorest sections of society to voice extreme hardships. He urged the officials present to act promptly and with a humanitarian outlook, emphasizing that responsive governance is essential for the well‑being of the community.
Following the discussions, the officials recorded each complaint in the Prajaseve portal and committed to submit a status report within two weeks.
