Karkala's Flower Growers' Cooperative Society convened its annual general meeting on Friday at the Prakash Hotel auditorium, where President Francis D'Souza underscored the pivotal role of member trust in the society's journey of progress. He expressed gratitude from the administrative board to all who have supported its advancement.
D'Souza highlighted the cooperative's unique position as a new concept in the state, diligently working to bring the challenges faced by flower growers to the government's attention and ensure they receive due benefits. The society, which has gained recognition at the Udupi district level through its cooperative and service initiatives, operates its central office in Karkala with financial transactions, along with a branch in Hebri and an extension branch in Ranganapalke.
The President announced that the society processed an annual business of Rs 3.80 crore, indicating a need for rapid further progress. He detailed the society's core objectives: providing safe and reliable savings options and offering timely financial assistance to customers. He attributed the institution's success to the immense trust of its members, the effective guidance of the administrative board, and the honest service of its staff.
Responding to the evolving landscape, D'Souza affirmed the increasing necessity for technology-driven services within the cooperative sector. To this end, the society prioritizes digital transactions, aiming to provide swift and convenient services to its members. All branches have been fully computerized to enhance customer convenience. Future plans include opening more new branches, specifically to benefit jasmine growers, and establishing a dedicated jasmine sales outlet in Hebri. The society also provides comprehensive information on flower planting, care, disease management, and trade through various media, acting as a crucial link between growers and government schemes.
Additionally, the cooperative offers general banking services to all segments of the public, alongside facilities like e-stamping, PAN card applications, and jasmine plant distribution. D'Souza appealed to everyone to collectively foster the society's growth. Senior cooperative leader and director Flora Mendonsa reiterated this call, urging all, including jasmine cultivators, to transact with and strengthen the institution. Vice President K. Raghavendra Pai, along with directors Flavia Aranha, B. Shashikanth Bhat, Venkataramana Sharma, Sukumar Muniyal, Mandara Acharya Marali, and Amar, were present at the meeting. Secretary Lata Umesh presented the annual report, while Jyothi Bhaskara Acharya from the Ranganapalke branch welcomed attendees, and Bhavya Rajesh Naik from the Hebri branch delivered the vote of thanks. Prakash Martis moderated the proceedings.
