Dr. Nafisath P., an Associate Professor at SDM College (Autonomous) in Ujire, recently secured a significant Early Career Research Award (ECRA) grant of Rs. 10 lakh from the Government of Karnataka. This substantial funding, awarded under the state's Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), will fuel her innovative research in medicinal and synthetic organic chemistry for the next two years.
The ECRA program operates as a highly competitive funding scheme, specifically designed to empower early career researchers who actively pursue independent research programs. Its objective is to initiate and strengthen new research activities while enriching the institution's overall research ecosystem. Dr. Nafisath P.'s success highlights her demonstrated ability in this demanding field.
Her sanctioned project delves into the intricate synthesis and characterization of metal (II) complexes, specifically exploring their potential in anti-cancer studies. The research methodology incorporates advanced in-silico computational studies alongside systematic laboratory procedures. Over the two-year grant period, the team will meticulously synthesize, purify, and characterize the proposed compounds, followed by comprehensive biological evaluations and further computational analysis to identify their applications in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery.
Dr. Sujay M.M., an Assistant Professor within the same Post Graduate Studies and Research Department of Chemistry, will collaborate on the project as Co-Principal Investigator. SDM College's management and Principal have lauded this remarkable achievement, extending their congratulations to both Dr. Nafisath P. and Dr. Sujay M.M.
