Udupi's Vidya Poshak, an affiliate of Yakshagana Kalaranga, prepares to disburse a substantial Rs. 1,75,81,500 in scholarships to 1273 deserving students. The 22nd annual Vinamra Sahayadhana distribution ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, at Rajangana within the Sri Krishna Math, Udupi, running from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
M. Gangadhara Rao, President of Yakshagana Kalaranga, and Secretary Murali Kadekar shared details during a press briefing at the Udupi Press Club. This year's beneficiaries include 1199 talented students from economically weaker backgrounds and 74 children of Yakshagana artists. The aid supports 338 young men and 935 young women. Additionally, Vidya Poshak is distributing 15 laptops, valued at Rs. 8.50 lakh, to selected students. Last year, the organization provided Rs. 1.40 crore in scholarships to 1241 students.
Beyond financial aid, the initiative extends to healthcare and housing. MAHE will distribute free health cards for Manipal Kasturba Hospital to the families of Vidya Poshak students during the event. Furthermore, Vidya Poshak has constructed 24 homes for 23 students and one artist, totaling Rs. 1.47 crore. This brings the total number of homes built by the organization to 103, with two more houses slated for handover to needy student families within the week. Another 21 homes are currently in various stages of construction, and the organization has selected 32 more for future development.
The day-long ceremony features multiple sessions. Dr. Uday Kumar Saralattaya, Dewan of Paryaya Sri Shirur Math, will inaugurate the event at 10 AM. Sri Vishwapriyateertha Sripadaru of Admar Math will deliver the benediction, with Dr. H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of MAHE, presiding. Dr. Mohan Alva, President of Alva's Education Institutions, Moodbidre, will offer felicitations. Dignitaries like Dr. N.B. Vijay Ballal, Dr. Narayana Sabahit, M.A. Gafoor, Dr. P. Narayana, Bannadi Narayana Achar, and Dr. G.S. Chandrashekar will also attend.
The afternoon session, commencing at 2:30 PM, will see Sri Vedavardhana Teertha Sripadaru of Paryaya Shirur Math deliver an anugraha sandesha. Dr. G. Shankar, President of Udupi G. Shankar Family Trust, will preside. Former Udupi Minister Pramod Madhwaraj is set to release 'Kalantranga-2026', Yakshagana Kalaranga's annual magazine, while B.G. Samaga, General Manager of Karnataka Bank, extends his felicitations.
