Mangalore, Sep 16 – The District Legal Services Authority of Dakshina Kannada announced that a National Lok Adalat will take place on September 19 at 2:30 pm across the court complexes of Mangalore, Bantwal, Belthangady, Puttur, Mudbidri and Sulya. The information was conveyed by District Principal Judge Basavaraj during a press meet held at the court premises on Wednesday.
Judge Basavaraj described the event as a golden chance for litigants whose cases remain pending or unregistered to achieve swift resolution through amicable settlement. He listed the categories of disputes that can be settled, including motor vehicle accidents, dishonoured cheques and bank loan recoveries, illegal sand mining, labour and loss compensation, divorce, marriage and maintenance matters, consumer complaints, land acquisition and related compensation, electricity and water bill issues, service matters concerning salaries and allowances, pension claims and birth certificate disputes. All civil and criminal matters that are legally permissible for settlement will be entertained.
During the Lok Adalat, judges together with officials from relevant departments will act as mediators, guiding both parties toward a mutually acceptable settlement. The authority has identified 56,727 pending cases in district courts as of September 19, of which 8,515 are suitable for resolution through the National Lok Adalat. A recommendation has been made to clear 3,264 of these cases in the upcoming session, with 232 already prepared for settlement. Twelve cases have already been resolved, according to Judge Basavaraj.
Successful settlements will result in a full refund of court fees, and no further appeals will be entertained against the orders. The District Legal Services Authority’s member secretary, Jaibunnisa, was present at the briefing and reiterated that the initiative offers an affordable, speedy avenue for justice, helping parties save time and resources.
