Alandila, Belthangady – A family returning home on September 14 discovered gold ornaments and cash totaling Rs 17.62 lakh missing from their residence in Alandila, Kuvettu village. Naufal B.M. (34), the homeowner, has filed a complaint with Belthangady Police, suspecting three individuals who performed wiring work at his house that day.
According to Naufal's complaint, thieves made off with 113 grams of gold ornaments, including two gold chains weighing 32 grams and 26 grams, a child's gold chain, an anklet, and a bracelet, all valued at Rs 15.82 lakh. Additionally, Rs 1.80 lakh in cash disappeared from the bedroom wardrobe. Three rings, collectively weighing 7 grams and kept in Naufal's mother's wardrobe, were also stolen.
The sequence of events began on the afternoon of September 13 when Naufal's wife, children, and mother departed for a relative's housewarming ceremony. Naufal subsequently locked the house and traveled to Belthangady for his vegetable business. On September 14, he arranged for wiring work at the house. Farooq from Maddadka brought Ashraf from Kudradka and Sulaiman from Shirlal to carry out the task. Naufal's younger brother, Mohammed Naushad, remained at home during the workers' presence.
Naufal and his family returned home around 8:30 PM on September 14. He immediately noticed the gold box missing from his bedroom wardrobe. A subsequent inspection confirmed the extensive loss of valuables. Investigators noted that the wardrobe key had been left inside the wardrobe itself, indicating the culprits likely gained entry to the house before accessing the locked furniture.
Naufal named Ashraf, Farooq, and Sulaiman, the wiring workers, as suspects in his complaint. Belthangady Police Station registered a case on September 15 under sections 331(3), 331(4), and 305 BNS-2023, and have initiated an investigation into the high-value theft.
