Police in Rajasthan arrested Kalyan Baisla, the man charged in the Gurugram hit‑and‑run that injured biker Sia, on Monday in the town of Dausa. He will be transferred to Gurugram in the coming days, officials confirmed.
Earlier, Gurugram investigators upgraded the case by adding an attempt‑to‑murder charge under Section 109 of the BNS Act. The amendment follows a video that showed a car striking a female motorcyclist on Golf Course Road, prompting the police to file a First Information Report at Sector 56 police station.
After reviewing CCTV footage, investigators concluded that the driver deliberately changed lanes at a slow pace, a maneuver that, according to the police, contradicts normal traffic practice. The added charge carries a maximum sentence of ten years.
Sia's family approached the police demanding tougher action. Their written statement was submitted to the Station House Officer, who is now recording her verbal account. Sia continues to suffer severe muscle pain and reports deteriorating health due to the trauma.
Deepankar, a spokesperson for the victim, told IANS that Sia identified four occupants in the offending vehicle and could clearly recognise two faces. He urged the authorities to pursue the fullest penalties, including charges of attempt‑to‑murder, hit‑and‑run and harassment.
Haryana Minister Gaurav Gautam pledged that anyone found guilty will be apprehended, even if the perpetrator is a relative. “Whoever is found guilty will be caught,” he said.
Advocate Naveen Baisla, representing the accused, argued that the incident was an accident. He claimed the motorcyclists provoked his client, who momentarily lost control while attempting a U‑turn, resulting in the collision.
Police have indicated that the driver of the car will also be taken into custody shortly. Gurugram law enforcement reiterated that lawlessness will not be tolerated and that the investigation remains ongoing.
