On September 9, Dr. Sachin S. Bhat addressed students at Barriers Institute of Technology (BIT) in Mangalore, delivering a special lecture titled “From Campus to Startup: Building Tomorrow’s Technical Entrepreneurs”. The event, held in BIT’s International Seminar Hall, was organized in partnership with the IEEE Mangalore Subsection and the IEEE BIT student branch.
Dr. Bhat, who founded Alar Innovations Private Limited and serves as a professor at SMVITM and Dean of Research, emphasized that turning innovative concepts into practical, technology‑driven solutions requires a blend of problem‑solving skills, technical expertise and an entrepreneurial mindset. He urged students to look beyond conventional career routes, noting that entrepreneurship can generate jobs and drive social change, not merely launch personal ventures.
The interactive session aimed to nurture a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship and startup thinking among BIT’s student community. According to Dr. Bhat, successful startups rest on four pillars: original ideas, the ability to address real‑world problems, robust technical capability and a business‑focused outlook.
Key academic figures attended the lecture, including Dr. Manjur Basha, director of BKC, and Dr. Aziz Mustafa B., principal of BIES, along with heads of various departments. The program was introduced by second‑year CSE student Isa Abdullah and welcomed by second‑year CSE (IoT) student Ayesha Shama, while Dr. Abdullah Gubbi offered a formal greeting.
Students left the hall inspired to cultivate entrepreneurial attitudes, transform their concepts into socially useful solutions, and adopt leadership qualities that align technology with innovation. The event reinforced BIT’s commitment to fostering future technical entrepreneurs from its own campus.
