Coastal Karnataka's capital, Mangalore, is preparing to host a major public seminar on September 11 at 7 pm at City Hall. This event forms a central part of the state-wide 'Seerat Abhiyan' campaign, initiated by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Karnataka. The campaign, which commenced on August 26, marks the occasion of Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) birthday, aiming to foster understanding and strengthen community ties.
Abdul Ghafoor, the campaign's organizer, announced during a press conference at Mangalore Press Club that the seminar will delve into 'Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) preconceptions and reality of present day India.' Titled 'Torch of Revolution: Prophet Muhammad (pbuh),' the broader campaign seeks to introduce the Prophet's messages to the Kannada people and dispel common misconceptions. CA Muhammad Ishaq, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Mangalore North, will preside over the evening.
A distinguished panel of guests is slated to address the gathering. Speakers include Dr. Vasu H.V. from Edina.com, Bangalore; Fr. Valerian D'Souza, Principal of Rosario Church; A.K. Kukkila, Editor of Sanmarga Mass Media; and Sabiha Fatima, Editor of Anupama Mahila Monthly.
The 'Seerat Abhiyan' has seen extensive outreach across the state, featuring diverse programs such as personal visits, seminars, public conferences, dialogue sessions, and exhibitions. As part of the initiative, two significant works have been released statewide: 'Manawa Manaka Kishikaka – Mindadodeya Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)' by renowned literary figure Yogesh Master, and 'Samagra Krantiya Jyoti Belagida Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)' authored by Vartha Bharati daily editor-in-chief Abdussalam Puttige.
Locally, various 'Seerat sabhas' have been organized in different mohallas, complemented by women's friendship gatherings and other programs spearheaded by the women's wing. Further community initiatives are planned, including a free Unani Medical and Hijama treatment camp on September 15. This camp is a collaborative effort with the Muslim Welfare Association, Ayush Department, Humanitarian Relief Society, and Social Services Department. Additionally, a blood donation camp will take place on September 20 in Bengre Kasta.
KM Ashraf, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind city president, along with campaign deputy coordinator Maqbool Kudroli, and women coordinators Sumaiya Hameedullah, Zeenat Ismail, and Shaheed Umar, were present at the press briefing.
