A three-storey building in East Delhi's Preet Vihar area, specifically at J-621, collapsed recently, prompting immediate rescue operations and a visit from Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The incident, involving a structure estimated to be around 20 years old, saw emergency services responding swiftly to the scene.
Initial reports indicated four individuals were trapped within the debris. Rescue teams from both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Delhi Disaster Response Force (DDRF) worked tirelessly to locate and extract survivors. Their efforts successfully pulled two people from the wreckage, one of whom sustained injuries and received immediate medical attention from the ambulances and medical teams stationed at the site. Operations continue to ensure no one remains unaccounted for.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta arrived at the collapse site to assess the situation firsthand and oversee the ongoing relief work. She interacted with officials from various agencies, including the Delhi Police, represented by the DCP East Delhi, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The Chief Minister emphasized the priority of rescue and providing necessary support to those affected.
Authorities have initiated legal proceedings following the collapse. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the building's owner, Chandan Singh. The charges include sections 304A (causing death by negligence), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), and 288 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings) of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation aims to determine the exact cause of the structural failure.
