Mangaluru's long-standing aspiration for a Karnataka High Court circuit bench gained significant momentum on Friday, as Chief Justice Justice Vibhu Bakru pledged to establish a dedicated committee. This assurance came during a meeting in Bengaluru with a delegation advocating for the bench's formation in the coastal region.
Ivan D'Souza, a Member of the Legislative Council and convenor of the High Court Coastal Circuit Bench Establishment Struggle Committee, confirmed the Chief Justice's commitment to forming this committee and advancing the necessary steps. D'Souza highlighted the state government's already favourable stance, noting its readiness to provide all essential infrastructure for the proposed circuit bench.
The delegation visited Chief Justice Bakru's office in Bengaluru to deliberate on diverse perspectives concerning the circuit bench's establishment. Discussions encompassed various opinions expressed across different locations, inter-district considerations, and challenges encountered in the process. This engagement underscored the concerted efforts to address all facets of the initiative.
Further emphasizing the state's dedication, D'Souza revealed that the state government accords high priority to various development projects within Mangaluru. He added that the issue of establishing a High Court circuit bench would feature prominently, alongside the comprehensive development of the coastal region, when the cabinet meeting convenes in Mangaluru.
Key members of the delegation included Jagadish Shenava, President of the Mangaluru Bar Association; Ronald Praveen, President of the Udupi Bar Association; Raghavendra Rao, former President of the Mangaluru Bar Association; the Principal District Government Pleader; and M.P. Noronha, PRO of the Coastal High Court Bench Committee.
