On August 31, a coalition of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Hindu Jagarana Vedike will stage a public awareness agitation in Puttur, Dakshina Kannada, according to statements made at a press briefing in Mangaluru on August 28.
Pradeep Saripalla, co‑chief of VHP state publicity and media, highlighted that police have filed attempt‑to‑murder charges against xerox shop owners Sadashiva Pai, Anjana Pai and Sudarshan Pai following a recent incident in the town. He described the filing as malicious and called for an immediate withdrawal of the cases.
Saripalla also urged authorities to arrest Niyaz and Naushad, identified as former activists of the banned Popular Front of India, under the Goonda Act. He asked that legal action be pursued against them and that the matter be examined under statutes dealing with organised crime, insisting on a thorough and unbiased investigation free from political influence.
Bajrang Dal divisional coordinator Puneeth Attavar announced that the agitation will commence with a march from Darbe Circle at 10 a.m., culminating in a large gathering at the grounds of Puttur Mahalingeshwara Temple. State‑level leaders from the three organisations are slated to attend, while volunteers from across Dakshina Kannada district are expected to join the rally voluntarily.
Present at the press conference were HJV state executive committee members Kiran Murje and Amit Gundalike, who reiterated the coalition’s demand for swift action and transparent probing of the recent unrest.
