On Friday, a road safety awareness session convened in Moodbidri brought together students, educators and community leaders to stress responsible riding on two‑wheelers. Lion Shivaprasad Hegde Kananjaru, training officer at G. Sons Industrial Training Institute, addressed the gathering as a resource person, warning that reckless driving can jeopardise lives and leave parents grieving.
Hegde, a Lion member, reminded college entrants that helmets, adherence to traffic regulations and moderate speed are non‑negotiable. He highlighted that every youngster has parents waiting at home for a safe return, urging them not to become the cause of an orphaned family.
The event was organised under the aegis of the Bunts Women's Unit, Moodbidri, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Alva's College. Dr. Kurian, principal of Alva's College, presided over the proceedings, while Shobha S. Hegde, president of the Bunts Women's Unit, and NSS program officers Sudeep Bunnan and Vasudha Bhat observed the session.
NSS volunteer Busra opened the program with a welcome address, and Jabir served as the compere. The concluding vote of thanks was delivered by Stepinai, who thanked all participants for their commitment to road safety.
Students leaving the venue were reminded to equip helmets, respect speed limits and follow signals, reinforcing the message that responsible riding safeguards not only their own futures but also the well‑being of their families.
