Mangaluru witnessed a critical discussion on the future of its linguistic heritage on Friday as the Beary Study Chair of Mangalore University, in collaboration with Badriya Pre-University College, hosted a public lecture. Held in the college auditorium at Kandak, Mangaluru Bunder, the program, titled 'Endangered Beary Proverbs and Stories,' drew attention to the urgent need for cultural preservation.

Dr. Aboobakkar Siddique, Coordinator of the Beary Study Chair, presided over the event, emphasizing the vital role of inter-generational transmission in safeguarding these unique linguistic treasures. He warned that without concerted efforts to pass them on, Beary proverbs and stories face the risk of extinction. Siddique reflected on a past era when joint family structures fostered the encouragement of language, folk literature, culture, and art. He noted the subsequent decline of folk traditions coinciding with the fragmentation of joint families and observed how the advent of social media has diminished the younger generation's patience for engaging with such narratives. Despite these challenges, he affirmed the Study Chair's dedicated commitment to preserving Beary folk literature.

Journalist Shamseer Budoli, serving as the resource person, shared his insights into the imperiled state of Beary proverbs and stories. Other prominent speakers included Hashir P.C., Convener of Badriya Educational Institutions; Umar U.H., President of the Beary Sahitya Academy; and Seema A.K., Principal of Badriya Pre-University College, all of whom addressed the gathering.

Bashir Baikampady and Hamza Malar, both members of the Beary Study Chair, were present to support the initiative. The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Ismail N., also a member of the Beary Study Chair, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Moidin Badsha Sambaratota. Lecturer Ayesha Nafeeha skillfully compered the entire event, ensuring a smooth flow of discussions.
