On Saturday, August 24, a voluntary blood donation camp was organised at Talluru Government Senior Primary School in Kundapura, attracting more than 300 participants and producing 175 units of blood.
Rajesh Karanth Uppinakudru, a member of the managing committee of Kollur Sri Mookambika Temple, inaugurated the event, emphasizing that a single voluntary donation can save a life because blood cannot be manufactured artificially.
The drive was a joint effort of several local bodies, including Panchagangaa Farmers’ Seva Sahakari Sangha Ni. Hemmadi, Abhayahasta Charitable Trust (Udupi), Lions Club Kundapura City Center, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project B, C, Trust (Kundapura), Rotary Club Kundapura Mid Town, JCI Kundapura City, Sri Sai Spandana Foundation (Kundapura), United Friends Tallur, and the Blood Bank Department of KMC Manipal.
Santosh Shetty Hakladi presided over the ceremony. On the dais, Prasad Kodi, Satish Salian, Sachin Kumar Shetty, Dr. Ganesh Mohan, Kusumakar Shetty, Project Officer Kiran Devadiga, Umesh Shetty, Harish Kotian and Anand Billava offered their best wishes to the volunteers.
Continuous donors Gururaj Hebbar Kundapura and Prashanth Kundapura received felicitation for their regular contributions, while Dr. Ranganath YP, recently transferred from Hattiangadi Primary Health Center, was honoured for his public‑service record.
Kavya Shetty opened the programme with a prayer, Shwetha Kundapura acted as the compere, and Bhaskar Acharya Uppinakudru welcomed the gathering and delivered the vote of thanks.
The successful collection of 175 units demonstrates the community's willingness to act collectively for a cause that cannot be replaced by technology, reinforcing the spirit of social responsibility among the youth of coastal Karnataka.
