On August 13, a tribute program was organized in Malpe to honor the memory of M Devdas, a renowned Dalit leader from Mangalore. The event, held at the Saraswati Bayaluranga Mandir, was attended by prominent figures such as Jayan Malpe, a Dalit thinker and activist, who spoke about Devdas's tireless efforts to empower Dalits. Devdas, who recently passed away, was remembered for his dedication to promoting self-respect, education, and organization among the community. Sanjiva Balkur, District President of the Dalit Rights Struggle Committee, highlighted Devdas's strong rationality and modern views, which set him apart as a leader. The program was organized by the Udupi District Ambedkar Yuva Sena, with Ganesh Nergi, the district president, in attendance. Other notable guests included Karunakara Master, U. Parameshwar, and Harish Salyan, who paid their respects to the late leader. The event also saw the presence of several other Dalit leaders, including Dayakara Malpe Narayan Parkala, Shivanna, and Raviraj Laxminagar. Sukesh Nittoor welcomed the guests, while Ashok Puttoor thanked them for their participation.
