On August 10, the Udupi district will observe National Deworming Day, where Albendazole tablets will be distributed free of cost to all children between 1 and 19 years of age. A total of 2,72,477 children in this age group have been identified in the district. The tablets will be administered to children in schools, in the presence of teachers and Anganwadi workers, after lunch. The Anganwadi workers, teachers, and other staff will also be given the tablets. Children who miss the dose on August 10 will be covered on August 17, during the mop-up day. Children who are sick will be given the tablets once they recover. If a child is already taking any other medication, they should consult a doctor before taking the Albendazole tablet.
The district health and family welfare authorities have identified 2,72,477 children in the 1-19 years age group who will be administered the Albendazole tablets. The tablets will be given to children in all government, aided, and private schools, as well as those in Anganwadi centers, residential schools, ITI, technical institutes, nursing colleges, and degree colleges. Children who are out of school will be covered through Anganwadi centers.
Children between 1-2 years will be given half a tablet, while those between 2-19 years will be given a full tablet. For younger children, the tablet will be crushed and mixed with water or fed with a sweet to facilitate easy consumption. The authorities have also trained staff on how to administer the tablets to younger children.
