On August 8, Udupi police successfully arrested three suspects from North India in connection with the murder of Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat former president and Congress leader David D’Souza. The suspects, identified as Raju, Ajay Rastogi, and Jiahul Vajul Sheikh, were arrested following a swift operation by the police. According to Udupi District Police Chief Hari Ram Shankar, the murder was a result of a financial dispute between David D’Souza and a North Indian company. The company had subcontracted work to D’Souza, who was also a contractor for Adani UPCL, but had not paid him Rs 80 lakh due to him. In revenge, the company allegedly hired the three suspects to kill D’Souza. The police have recovered the pistol used in the crime and the bike used by the suspects to escape. Two of the suspects, Ajay Rastogi and Jiahul Vajul Sheikh, were arrested in Kumta and Bhatkal respectively, while the main accused, Raju, was arrested in Byndoor after a brief shootout with the police. The police have formed a team to investigate the case and are on the lookout for the mastermind behind the murder.
