On June 4, the Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) joined forces with the Embassy of India in Qatar, the Ministry of Municipality’s Public Parks Department, and Doha Municipality to host a grand tree-planting event at the Old Airport Park in Doha, Qatar. This event commemorated World Environment Day, emphasizing the vital role of community engagement in promoting sustainable urban development. The program, which started at 7:30 AM, brought together diplomatic figures, municipal leaders, and members of the Indian expatriate community under the theme “Let’s take care of nature, because nature has taken care of us.”
His Excellency Mr. Vipul, Ambassador of India to Qatar, and Mr. Sandeep Kumar, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the Indian Embassy, attended the event, along with Qatari governmental representatives, including Mr. Mohammed Abdullah Mohammed, Assistant Director of the Public Parks Department, Sheikh Suhaim Al Thani, and Mr. Salem Al Ahwal, Head of the Parks and Recreation Section at Doha Municipality. Ambassador Vipul stressed the importance of nurturing urban greenery, stating that it is a shared global responsibility that builds lasting ecological legacies for future generations and strengthens international diplomatic ties.
Mr. Mohammed Abdullah Mohammed highlighted the significance of communal involvement in environmental initiatives, commending the active participation of the Indian diaspora in achieving local environmental objectives. The event’s central component involved the symbolic planting of native saplings by the diplomatic delegation, municipal officials, and the KSQ Managing Committee, followed by the planting of additional trees by corporate volunteers and community members.
The KSQ President, Mr. Subramanya Hebbagelu, led the initiative, expressing gratitude to the local authorities for their logistical support. The event demonstrated the Karnataka Sangha Qatar’s commitment to environmental stewardship and international cooperation, fostering a thriving and sustainable urban ecosystem in Qatar.
