On August 6, in Udupi, the district Collector announced a significant expansion of polling booths. The decision involves adding 131 new polling stations across the district, bringing the total from 1112 to 1243. This move aims to redistribute polling booths with over 1,200 voters in the five assembly constituencies. The Collector shared this information during a meeting with representatives of recognized political parties at the Collectorate Hall in Manipal on Wednesday. The proposal to establish these new polling booths will be submitted to the Election Commission. The representatives of all political parties present at the meeting gave their consent to the plan. The breakdown of new polling stations by constituency is as follows: Byndur will have 48 new stations, Kundapur will have 16, Udupi will have 20, Kapu will have 22, and Karkala will have 25. This increase will improve voter accessibility and efficiency in the district.
