Residents of Udupi district are dealing with the aftermath of heavy rain that has been pounding the area for the past 24 hours. As of 8:30 am today, the district has received an average of 57.7 mm of rainfall, with the highest amount recorded in Hebri at 124.8 mm. The rain, which started last night, continued throughout the day, causing scattered damage to houses and horticultural crops due to strong winds. In Kulanje village, a tree fell on the house of Vadiraj Naik, damaging the upper floor and cow shed, with estimated losses of around Rs 60,000. Similarly, a walnut tree fell on the house of Jayaram Achari in Machhattu village, causing partial damage worth over Rs 25,000. The nut orchard of Chandra Naik in Kulanje village was also severely damaged, with over 15 walnut trees uprooted, resulting in losses of around Rs 30,000. Other areas, such as Siddhapur village, also reported damage to plantations, with losses estimated at Rs 20,000. The rain has been reported in various parts of the district, including Kundapur, Karkala, Brahmavar, Byndur, Udupi, and Kapu, with rainfall amounts ranging from 27.8 mm to 58.2 mm.
