in Udupi Dengue cases also rise amid COVID-19
Udupi: The district has experienced a steady increase in COVID-19 cases.Dengue cases in the district have also increased 89 percent this year, causing the district’s Health Department to be concerned. As compared to the last two years, the number of cases has doubled this year. Udupi taluk had the highest number of reported dengue cases. 154 cases have been reported, including 105 in public hospitals and 49 in private hospitals. A total of 130 cases were reported from rural areas. In Kundapur taluk, 15 cases were reported in government hospitals and 13 in private hospitals. In Karkala’s government hospital, 75 cases were reported, while 24 cases were reported in private hospitals.
A total of 131 cases of dengue were recorded between January 2020 and June 30. In 2017, 67 cases were reported, while 59 and 68 cases were reported in 2018 and 2019, respectively. There were 281 cases reported between January 2021 and July 2021, but no deaths occurred.
Rain and sunshine in the district contribute to dengue transmission. A number of precautionary measures are being taken by the Department of Health. Dr Prashant Bhat, Controller for Communicable Disease, Udupi district, said that the public must ensure that water does not accumulate around their houses in tyres, sheaths, or agricultural wastes.
