Rahul Ratnam Pandey, the newly appointed Commissioner of Mangalore Municipal Corporation, visited the Sunday Bazaar business center and street side business area near City Hall on Thursday, June 30. During his visit, he interacted with traders and listened to their concerns. Pandey announced that the rules governing street trading will be reviewed, and a meeting will be convened next week to discuss the issues with all street vendors in the city. The commissioner’s visit comes after a case was registered against traders during a clearance operation near Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall. Traders requested that the corporation allow at least 40 vendors to operate on Sundays. However, Pandey stated that no one should conduct business next Sunday, and legal action will be taken against those who do. He cautioned officers to exercise restraint when dealing with vendors and encouraged traders to report any mistakes made by authorities. Pandey also inspected the corporation-constructed zone for street vendors and gathered suggestions on how to improve its usability. The traders’ association leaders, including B.K. Imtiaz, Santosh RS, and Muhammad Mustafa, were present during the meeting. The commissioner assured them that a meeting will be held to address their concerns and take necessary action.
