On a day when political tensions ran high in Udupi, BJP MLA Yashpal Suvarna sparked outrage with a derogatory statement against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. This incident occurred during a protest against the BJP and Congress Party in the city. Karnataka Pradesh Women’s Congress Committee Secretary Manjula Nayak has strongly condemned Suvarna’s language, terming it unconstitutional and unbefitting of a public representative. She emphasized that while criticism of a leader’s policies is acceptable, personal insults and derogatory language have no place in democratic discourse.

Suvarna, who has faced serious charges in the past, has been urged to retract his statement and apologize publicly. Manjula Nayak stressed that those in positions of power, like MLAs, must conduct themselves with dignity and respect for the office they hold. She also called for the state government and police department to take strict legal action against Suvarna. Furthermore, Nayak has appealed to the state government to disqualify MLAs who engage in hate politics and undermine social harmony, citing the need to uphold the values of the Constitution and respect the rule of law.
