On Tuesday, MLA Yashpal Suvarna ignited a controversy in Udupi with a hateful speech at a protest meeting organized by the district BJP. The protest was a response to the recent movement by students and young people under the platform of CJP, which forced the central government to concede to their demands. The BJP, currently in power at the centre, was compelled to relent, and the party’s subsequent actions have been widely criticized. In Udupi, the BJP held a rally against CJP activists and their supporters, including democrats. During the protest, MLA Yashpal Suvarna made baseless accusations against the activists, claiming they had committed a criminal offense against opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and actor Prakash Raj, who had supported the movement. He also leveled unfounded charges against the faculty of Manipal Mahe University. K. Phaniraj, Chief Convenor of the Conciliation Committee, condemned the MLA’s behavior, stating that it is the government’s constitutional duty to take legal action against MLAs who exceed their authority, regardless of their party affiliation. Phaniraj urged the Karnataka Government’s Home Ministry to take the MLA’s actions seriously and initiate legal proceedings.
