On Monday, Bantwal City Police took Chetan, the accused in the murder of young woman Lavanya, into custody after his health stabilized following 11 days of treatment at a Mangaluru hospital. The incident occurred on July 16 at the BC Road KSRTC bus stand. Chetan, a resident of Odilnala, Belthangady, had allegedly assaulted and murdered Lavanya, from Kakyapadavu, with a deadly weapon before fleeing the scene in a car. A case was registered at the Bantwal Rural Police Station. After being taken into custody in Mangaluru the day after the incident, Chetan was admitted to Bantwal Government Hospital for primary treatment due to suspicion of consuming rat poison. He was later shifted to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru for further treatment, where he was initially in the Intensive Care Unit and later moved to a general ward as his health improved. The accused is currently in the custody of Bantwal City Police and is expected to be produced before the court on Tuesday. The investigation into the murder case is being led by Bantwal City Police Station Inspector Ananthapadmanabha, under the direction of Bantwal ASP Yash Kumar Sharma.
