On Monday, July 27, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal criticized the Centre for its handling of the paper leak issue, stating that the government initially denies problems, labels protesters as anarchists, and uses force against them before forming a task force for exam reforms. Sibal made these remarks a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the formation of a high-powered task force, led by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, to reform examinations conducted by the National Testing Agency. The task force aims to utilize technology to create a robust and transparent examination system. In a post on X, Sibal outlined the government’s approach to problems, saying they initially deny the issue, ignore it if it persists, and then take action against protesters. The task force, comprising domain experts, includes former ISRO chairman S Somanath, former Intelligence Bureau director Tapan Deka, and IIT Chennai director V Kamakoti. The prime minister’s announcement came after a 36-day agitation led by the Cockroach Janta Party over the NEET paper leak issue, which ended with the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The government plans to work on the task force’s suggestions to establish a foolproof examination system, focusing on technological and structural reforms.
