On July 26, Mangaluru observed Kargil Vijay Diwas with a ceremony at the Kadri War Memorial, where a decommissioned Indian Army T-55 Battle Tank was dedicated to the people of Dakshina Kannada. Led by Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, the event was attended by Mangaluru South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, and a large gathering of citizens, including serving and retired Armed Forces personnel, public representatives, ex-servicemen, NCC cadets, and students. The programme commenced with the unveiling of the T-55 Battle Tank, symbolizing the courage and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces. Capt. Ganesh Karnik briefed the audience on the tank’s significance and the efforts to install it at the War Memorial, which was a long-cherished dream of MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta. Col. N. Sharath Bhandary delivered the keynote address, recounting the history of the 1999 Kargil War and its strategic importance. Capt. Ganesh Karnik urged citizens to prioritize patriotism and national service, calling for unity above divisions. MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta paid homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War, dedicating the T-55 Battle Tank to the people of Dakshina Kannada as a reminder of their bravery and sacrifice.
