On a recent visit to the Press Bhavan in Karkala, PSI Prasanna of Karkala Rural Police Station stressed the importance of public awareness in preventing cybercrime. He cautioned against downloading APK files, suspicious links, and unknown mobile applications from unfamiliar sources. During the police department interaction program, PSI Prasanna advised the public to exercise caution when interacting online.
PSI Prasanna reported a significant decrease in cybercrime cases compared to the previous period, with approximately 80% of registered cases successfully investigated. However, he emphasized the need for continued vigilance, warning that clicking on suspicious links can lead to the misuse of personal and banking information. He also urged the public to verify the authenticity of news and information before sharing on social media, as disseminating false news can lead to legal action.
Additionally, PSI Prasanna highlighted the importance of protecting the identity of child victims in POCSO cases, citing clear guidelines from the Supreme Court and other courts. He encouraged the public to report cyber fraud incidents to the police immediately, increasing the chances of recovering lost money. The event was attended by Mohammed Sharif, President of Karkala Taluk Journalists’ Association, and other office bearers Harish Sacharipete and Udayakumar.
