On Friday, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and J P Nadda met with activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, assuring him of constructive dialogue and positive intervention from the government on the paper leak issue. This meeting led to Wangchuk ending his 26-day hunger strike, which began as a protest against the examination system and the recent NEET paper leaks. Dr Singh stated that the government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, is committed to ensuring justice for students and taking strict action against those compromising their future. The Centre has responded positively to key concerns raised by protesters, including not registering cases against peaceful protesters and providing compensation for the families of suicide victims affected by the NEET paper leaks. Wangchuk’s decision to end his fast came after receiving written assurances from the government and Members of Parliament across various parties that the issue of accountability in the examination system would be discussed in Parliament. The government has also agreed to a threadbare discussion to find solutions to paper leaks and educational reforms regarding examinations. Wangchuk announced the end of his hunger strike on his official X handle, stating that the government and members of parliament have committed to discussing the issue of accountability in the failing examination system and providing adequate compensation to the families of suicide victims.
